VectorBT, Backtrader, Zipline, and Bt are free and open source, but they are libraries rather than products: they require Python and self-hosting, and none of them ship a chart. TradeGrub runs the same class of backtest in the browser.

Common Questions

Can I bring my Pine scripts across?

Yes, in most cases. TradeGrub ships a Pine-compatible interpreter that covers the great majority of the v6 language surface, so indicators and strategies usually run with little or no editing. Scripts that depend on features outside that coverage will report exactly which line failed.

Are alerts capped?

No. Alerts are unlimited on the free tier, including multi-condition, pattern, volume spike, financial metric, and second-based alerts, with HMAC-signed webhook delivery. Server-side evaluation is a Pro feature.

What can Python do that Pine cannot?

Python strategies run in the browser with the scientific stack available, so a strategy can use pandas, scikit-learn, or a trained model directly. Pine is deliberately sandboxed and cannot call external code. TradeGrub also adds Monte Carlo simulation, parameter sweeps, and a genetic optimizer on top of the backtester.

Is TradeGrub Charts really free?

Yes. The free tier includes all 306 indicators, 87 drawing tools, 96 pattern detectors, unlimited alerts, and backtesting, with no ads and no per-chart indicator caps. Pro at $5.99 per month, or $4.99 billed yearly, adds the TradeGrub data feed, cloud sync, and server-side alert evaluation.

How current is this comparison?

Feature counts for TradeGrub are read directly from the product registries rather than from marketing copy. Competitor rows reflect publicly documented capabilities and published pricing at the time of the last review, and pricing in particular changes often, so treat the other columns as a starting point and verify anything you are about to make a purchase decision on.
