A Bloomberg Terminal alternative for the rest of us

A terminal seat runs roughly $30,000 a year and buys a great deal more than charts: fixed income analytics, credit curves, a messaging network, and decades of institutional coverage. If what you actually use it for is charting, screening, fundamentals, filings, and market data, the gap is far narrower than the price difference suggests. This table is deliberately honest about where it is not.

The short version

Of 177 capabilities compared, TradeGrub and Bloomberg both cover 104. TradeGrub adds 46 that Bloomberg does not. Bloomberg covers 4 that TradeGrub does not.

What it costs

Bloomberg is priced at ~$2,500/mo (~$30k/yr per seat). There is no free tier. TradeGrub is $5.99 a month, or $4.99 billed yearly, and its free tier is permanent rather than a trial: no ads, no account required, no feature gates.

What you gain

bar replay, bar magnifier, auto fibonacci, galleryview (mini-chart grid), technical rank / sctr, white-label embeddable widget, parameter sweep / optimizer, gann tools, pattern tools (xabcd, elliott) and indicator snap, and 36 more.

What you give up

sms notifications, options chain / strategy tools, forex and commodities / futures. These are the honest reasons to stay on Bloomberg; several are on the roadmap below.

Common Questions

What does a terminal still do better?

Fixed income and credit analytics, benchmark-relative portfolio attribution and factor risk, multi-decade institutional history, buy-side messaging, and depth of coverage in non-equity asset classes. Several of those are on the TradeGrub roadmap; fixed income analytics is deliberately out of scope.

Do I get fundamentals, filings, and ownership data?

Yes. Financial statements with quarterly and yearly trend charts, SEC filings linked to EDGAR, institutional ownership, insider transactions from Form 4, analyst ratings and price targets, consensus EPS estimates against prior, an economic map, and a yield curve.

Is there Level 2 and Time and Sales?

Yes, both, on the stock and crypto dashboards and on the symbol detail page. Aggregated multi-venue equity depth and a click-to-trade DOM ladder are on the roadmap.

Where does the market data come from?

US real-time streaming and delayed global data are included. Bring Your Own Data routes chart data through your own broker connection instead, across 15 or more broker integrations and around 80 crypto exchanges, so you are not paying twice for a feed you already have. Where your broker is licensed for a market, that includes real-time global data: if the broker feed carries it, the chart shows it, with no separate exchange subscription from us.

How current is this comparison?

Feature counts for TradeGrub are read directly from the product registries rather than from marketing copy. Competitor rows reflect publicly documented capabilities and published pricing at the time of the last review, and pricing in particular changes often, so treat the other columns as a starting point and verify anything you are about to make a purchase decision on.
